With Dubai being surrounded by desert, sand storms are a regular occurrence. The amount of sand and dust being carried in the air wreaks havoc on your externally mounted AC condensers and coils. Once this dust has collected in your AC Units this can then find its way into your ducts and then once your AC is switched on, blown around your home, potentially causing breathing problems such as acute asthma.
At Pro Clean AC we use industry-leading machines like the Rotobrush, which contains two large HEPA filters. This assists us in our duct cleaning service by agitating the dust and dirt whilst vacuuming all within the same motion. The machine’s power and portability make it easy for us to use in both residential and commercial premises.
Anything from heavy-duty to household duct cleaning, it works perfectly even for flexible ducts in your ductwork as this is how the machine was originally designed for and has evolved ever since.
Twinned with our use of DM Approved Envirocon HVAC Sanitizer, we remove all the dust and debris and then sanitize your ducts to provide a complete cleaning service, setting us apart from other AC cleaning companies in Dubai.
“It is advisable to have the air conditioning ducts cleaned annually, especially ac repairing maintenance if one or more people in a family suffer from allergies, or if there are children at home. Winter is a particularly good time because the air conditioning systems are not in use all the time. To be honest, many families would be surprised to see the amount of dirt and mould that would be eliminated during a cleaning session,” said Dr Imad Ali, a paediatrician at Amrita Medical Centre.
The fine dust that collects in uncleaned ducts can contain as many as 1,000 dust mites, and up to 250,000 allergenic dust mite faecal pellets, and these trigger nasal and respiratory symptoms in people with pre-existing allergies. In addition, mould, which is also known to exacerbate allergies through released spores, can also build up in these pipelines.
Dubai’s Rashid Hospital, which treats about 1,500 asthmatic patients each year, has previously issued a recommendation to regularly clean air conditioning ducts to avoid the accumulation of dust and fungal allergens.
While general maintenance is provided for most apartments and villas in the capital by landlords and property management companies, the cleaning of AC ducts is not included in most maintenance contracts. Residents, therefore, have to request the service and often pay for it themselves.
How Mold Grows in Air Conditioners
Even with the extreme heat in Dubai, the mould in your system thrives and this is the reason why AC cleaning companies in Dubai are essential. Mould spores are everywhere. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get rid of all the mould spores in your home, and even if you did, more would come in every time you opened a door or window. When spores grow into the mould, more spores are released, and these higher concentrations of spores are what cause the health problems associated with mould.
Mould in your air conditioning needs two things to grow: moisture and an organic food source. Moisture can come from high humidity (which is very common in Dubai), or a leak or spill that is not cleaned up properly. Condenser and evaporator coils are the main contributors to condensation, and therefore have the potential for water leakage if not properly drained. The food source can be the surface the mould is growing on, like wood or carpet, or organic particles found in the dust if there is enough of it.
How do I Prevent Mold from Growing in my Air Conditioner and Ducts?
Controlling moisture is the key to preventing mould in air conditioners. Unfortunately, air conditioners can also be a source of moisture. Here are some steps you can take to control moisture when using an air conditioner in Dubai:
- When humid air is cooled in an air conditioner, the water vapour in the air condenses out of the air (cool air can hold less water than warm air, so the air is “wrung out” like a sponge).
- AC units should have drainage systems, which usually drain into a tray in Dubai. Drains and trays can become clogged by debris or build-up and result in significant flooding in your home.
- AC ducts tend to self-regulate moisture because the airflow dries them out. Keep all grates and air returns unblocked and clean to allow air to flow properly to all parts of the system.
- Replace or clean air filters regularly. Clogged filters not only provide a food source for mould, but they can impede airflow.
- Never introduce moisture to your AC system. Duct cleaning should be dry vacuuming or dry wiping, never watering. This is why we use industry-leading machines to provide our customers with an excellent cleaning service.
